I decided to compromise… I have run a little further than perhaps I should but not too far… hopefully my legs will now be ready for what’s coming their way.
On Monday I did a gentle 2-hour half marathon around the edge of Hyde Park, Green Park, St James Park and Battersea Park. I didn’t go very fast but by the end of it my legs where aching a lot… proof that my training in Barbados had been pathetic! Having said that, at no point did my breathing or heart rate rise above a watching-tv levels so I suppose those killer 1-hour treadmill sessions did do something.
On Monday night the jetlag hit and I couldn’t fall asleep until 6 in the morning! If I am going to get to the marathon on time then I will need to be going to bed early and waking up early… this jetlag is the wrong way round! I forced myself to get up before 9 on Tuesday but this meant that I was far too tired for any running. The good news is my legs weren’t aching.
Today I did another slow run along the river. It was quite long but nothing strenuous. I felt quite tired but the I found the run itself easy.
So now there is not much more I can do. I will probably do couple of Hyde Park perimeter jogs just to keep things moving but nothing more. I’ll also do some research into what I should be eating over the next couple of days.
Good luck and best wishes on your race. I look forward to your report.
Good luck and all the best for Sunday. I am sure you will do great!
