Unfortunately there was not enough time on Sunday for me to do one of my epic weekend runs. I did however manage to squeeze in an early morning 9kms… it was a beautiful crisp morning… it was so cold that all of the muddy bits had frozen solid (which was nice!). I ran around the perimeter of Knole Park and for the second day in a row got a good dose of hill! I could have run for much longer but I could only spare an hour.
Monday I was back in London. It was a very exciting day because my university’s sports centre was opening its doors after being under construction for 3 years! My friend and I got there at opening time so that we could register before the crowds. The gym was amazing… the latest state of the art machines that remember everything you have done and tell you what you need to do next… they even play DVDs for you! To celebrate the launch day, there were a series of 10 minute challenges… how far can you go in 10mins on the treadmill, rower, bike, cross-trainer, or in the pool. I of course headed straight to the treadmill… I started the speed at 17km/hr and after 4mins raised it to 17.5, then 18, 18.5, 19, before doing the last minute at 19.5km/hr. I managed to go 2.95km in total. My distance stayed number one throughout the day… and then just before the end someone set their treadmill slightly faster and beat me by 200m… grrr… I don’t like coming second! I didn’t think I would be able to better my distance second time so I jumped on the cross-trainer and gave it my best! I have never used the cross-trainer before and it made muscles burn that I didn’t even know I had! But I kept going at an absurd speed and won it instead! In the end it turned out that there was the same prize for first and second place… so I ended up winning 2 bags, 2 towels, 2 headphones, 2 water bottles and 2 personal trainer sessions! Not a bad days work and it counts as 20 minutes of extreme cardiovascular workout!
Today I did a Wednesday’s resistance training session instead of a run (I’ve moved the run to Wednesday). I went through my new gym program completely… it took about an hour. You can click here for my full marathon training gym program.
