Two days on and I still ache from my run on Sunday! I decided the best cure for my aches would be to stick to my program and go for a run in the park. I’m not sure what I intended to do when I left for my run but some how I ended up sprinting around Hyde Park at an insane pace… probably because I was so cold! In total I ended up running 6.5 km at an average pace of over 14.5 km/h… That sort of run would have killed me two weeks ago! It is very encouraging to see such improvements in my stamina… I just hope I can continue to improve each week and I don’t hit a demoralizing plateau.
I signed up for a couple of practice races today, an 8km and a half marathon. The 8km is organised by my university and takes place in Hyde Park. I should find the distance fine and hopefully I will be able to place well. It is called the Imperial College Marrow Fun Run and takes place on 5th March. I am seriously worried about the Half Marathon I signed up for… the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon on 26th February. It is famous for its “lung-busting” hills! I haven’t found a single decent slope to practice on in London so my legs are going to get a real shock when I hit that first hill. I am going to have to go hill hunting I think!

Hi,
I failed to get into the London Marathon and opted to go for the Paris one instead (April 9th). I’m having a few probs adapting to road-running at the mo and it sounds like you’ve done a bit of running before so I just wondered if you had any tips at all…in particular my thighs are like bags of sand after an 18k road run the other day…is there anything pre- or post-run I could be doing to avoid this? Sorry to bombard you…feel free to check out my blog to compare training programmes…they’re very different!
Best of luck with yours…
Regards,
Fin
Lung Busting Hills?!? Yowza!! Doesn’t sound like a race I’ll be doing anytime soon (this coming from the girl who’s team captain for the Hustle Up the Hancock — 94 flights of stairs).
I’m impressed with how well you’re doing. I know which races I’m going to do, but have yet to sign up for them. Kudos for sticking to your schedule! That’s some mad discipline you’ve got.
