I went back to my family home today. The plan was to go for a half-marathon run in the park when I got here… only problem was I had a disastrous journey back and as a result I spent all of the daylight hours sitting on a train… but that’s another story.
So I when I did get home it was the infamous round ‘The Block’ run that was waiting for me. ‘The Block’ is a mile long circuit starting and ending at my home. It consists of an uphill stretch, followed by a downhill stretch followed by an uphill stretch. There is nothing flat whatsoever. I used to run ‘The Block’ when I was at school… I used to do a single lap in the morning as my 400m training. That used to kill me. Today I did six laps! And as if it wasn’t hard enough… at the corners the road was covered in ice… I practically had to slow to a walk every time I changed direction. But the good news is I did it and the hills weren’t too bad… I am feeling much more confident about the Tunbridge Wells 1/2 Marathon now. Another hilly run tomorrow should also help.
Yesterday I was quite tired from my long run the day before so I went to the gym for a gentle session. I saw a fitness instructor who helped me devise a good once a week resistance-training program to supplement my running. I ran through it and it felt very good. Next week sometime I will type it up in full for anyone that’s interested.
In the evening we went out to a fancy club. I stayed off the alcohol all night… in fact I have pledged to stop drinking completely until after the marathon (that is something that university students in the UK don’t find easy!). I also danced quite a lot… does that count towards my marathon training?
Hi, Just discovered your blog recently. I’d be interested to see your strength training regime.
Keep up the good work!
